Buddy Guy, the legendary blues guitarist and showman known for his riveting, virtuoso playing and fervent vocals returns to Minneapolis. Quinn Sullivan, a 11-year-old blues guitar prodigy mentored by Guy, opens the show and joins the five-time Grammy Award-winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee later in the evening. George “Buddy” Guy set out to pursue his music career in 1957, leaving his rural Louisiana roots for Chicago. He fashioned his unique sound and charismatic stage presence under the influences of Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Howlin’ Wolf and Junior Wells. As pioneer of the famous Chicago blues sound, Guy has made an enduring mark on blues and rock music, influencing icons including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Guy's hits include “Damn Right,” “I've Got The Blues,” “Feels Like Rain” and “Slippin' In.” His most recent studio album, “Skin Deep” (2008), features all original material. In addition to his Grammys, he has received 23 W.C. Handy Blues Awards (the most any artist has received), the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. He is also ranked thirtieth in Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” Quinn Sullivan first caught Guy’s attention in 2007 by playing for him when he asked for an autograph before a show. Guy was so impressed he pulled Sullivan on stage to jam with him. He has since aided his blossoming career by landing him record deals and featuring him on a track from “Skin Deep” fittingly titled “Who’s Gonna Fill Those Shoes.” Sullivan has also performed on the “Oprah Winfrey Show,” NBC’s “Today Show” and at major festivals including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits. |
