“The New Century Theatre showcases a hilarious gem written by Minnesota-native Bruce Arntson.”
“You don’t have to be a country music fan to get a great big ol’ kick out of The Doyle & Debbie Show.”
“The songs are funny and memorable...loaded with drive and clever lyrics.”
Written by Minnesota’s own Bruce Arntson, The Doyle & Debbie Show is the hilarious new musical comedy that the Chicago Tribune calls “Hilarious, drop-dead funny.” The Doyle & Debbie Show lovingly pokes fun at country music has-been Doyle Mayfield and the lovely stars-in-her-eyes Debbie.
Doyle, a washed-up star with a handful of hits from the 70s and 80s, tries to make a comeback after 30 years, four wives and three ‘Debbies.’ He discovers his newest Debbie, a single mother of three, singing her heart out at the VFW. Debbie thinks Doyle is her last chance to make it big in Nashville. But she quickly wonders if this loose cannon has what it takes to make their music dreams come true.
David Andrew Anderson and Kim Kivens wield the vocals of vintage country stars and the acting chops of Broadway veterans, taking audiences on a freewheeling joyride with side-splitting original songs like “Harlequin Romance,” “Barefoot and Pregnant” and “Blue Stretch Pants.”
“Brilliant. The last time I laughed anywhere close this hard was at The Book of Mormon…hilarious, drop-dead funny.”
