The Gaither Vocal Band is a Grammy Award-winning powerhouse gospel music quintet featuring an all-star lineup of voices including the renowned Bill Gaither, Wes Hampton, David Phelps, Michael English and Mark Lowry. They are touring in support of their newest CD, Pure and Simple, released in September 2012. Over the past three decades, they have been ranked at the top of the list for concert tickets sold worldwide in any music genre with hits including “Few Good Men,” “The King is Coming” and “Can’t Stop Talking About Him.” The Gaither Vocal Band was founded in 1981 by bassist Bill Gaither, who has earned seven Grammy Awards, more than two dozen Gospel Music Association Dove Awards and was named Songwriter of the Century in 2000 by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Their first album, “Wings,” debuted in 1988. They have since released nearly 30 other albums of soul stirring gospel music and become known for their powerhouse vocals and innovative harmonies. Sixteen men have comprised the Gaither Vocal Band throughout their 30 year existence. Current members include Gaither, multiple Dove Award-winning lead singer Michael English, tenor Wes Hampton (a key contributor to the Gaither Vocal Band’s 2008 Grammy Award-winning album “Lovin’ Life”), baritone and 13 year member Mark Lowry and tenor David Phelps, who was nominated for the Gospel Music Association’s 2002 Male Vocalist of the Year. In 2011, their worldwide tour included more than 50 tour dates across the United States, plus international appearances in Europe, South America and South Africa. Their 2013 tour will visit more than two dozen cities including Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. |
