The LT. Dan Band Benefit Concert for Local Hero CPL. Mark Litynski
Presented by Tunnel to Towers Foundation and The Gary Sinise Foundation
Sun, August 4, 2013 at 7:00pm
$39.00 to $79.00
Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform at the Pantages Theatre in honor of Minneapolis native Cpl. (Ret.) United States Marine Corps Mark Litynski, who was 23-years old when an IED blast ripped off both of his legs and most of his left arm, slashing into his remaining arm, shattering his pelvis and driving a rock and other debris up into his abdominal cavity. Mark and his wife Heather were both raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis and are looking for a plot of land here to have their "smart home" built.
In addition to the Lt. Dan Band, "America's Tenor" Danny Rodriguez, also known as the singing policeman, will take the stage with his mellifluous vocals. Danny is the New York City cop who helped bring the country an uplifting spirit of promise and hope with his stirring rendition of "God Bless America" after the September 11 terrorist attacks and has subsequently offered his talent to the Lt. Dan Band Benefit Concerts across the country. World renowned artist and American patriot, Scott LoBaido will also be at the concert painting a tribute onstage to thank the Minneapolis community for their support of CPL Lytinski. Local Marine hero Mark is married to Heather and they are looking forward to raising their family in a new "smart home" where Mark can have additional independence. Each house features fully-automated amenities to ease their unimaginable life changes and help restore their independence. Twenty-five "smart homes" will have broken ground or completed construction by the end of 2013, each for a wounded warrior and their family.
"Lieutenant Dan" is the character Gary Sinise portrayed in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, a role for which he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. As Gary began visiting troops around the world, people (even little kids) who didn't know him as Gary Sinise, the actor, would recognize him as "Lt.Dan". Those in the military also seem to identify strongly with the character. And so the name for his group was an easy choice: Lt. Dan Band!
Gary Sinise and The Lt. Dan Band cover everything from classics by Stevie Wonder and The Police to contemporary songs by Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, the Zac Brown Band and much more: pop, rock, blues, Motown, soul, country, even tunes from the 40's big band era. There's something for everyone and each show highlights the musical diversity of the band, as well as the passion and energy each member brings to the stage. Whether performing for troops overseas or at a local club, the goal is to have fun and rock the house!
