The Mavericks are the Grammy and Country Music Association Award-winning quintet showcasing Raul Malo and liberally mixing country, pop, rock, Latin and lounge music. They will be touring in support of In Time, their ninth studio album and first in ten years, to be released on February 26. Known for their poly-rhythmic brand of post-modern country, they return after an eight year hiatus to showcase the group's infectious energy and robust sound which has come to categorize their live performances.
Led by the incredible voice of Raul Malo, a Miami native gone Nashville, the Mavericks also include Paul Deakins on drums, Jerry Dale McFadden on keyboards, Eddie Perez on guitar and Robert Reynolds on multiple instruments. With a catalog spanning more than 20 years, the group formed in 1989 in Miami and released a self-titled album in 1991. Their critically acclaimed second album, "From Hell to Paradise," featured Malo's original songs and came out in 1992. Two years later, the hard-to-categorize band saw their third release, "What a Crying Shame," become a major commercial success, going platinum with the title track becoming a Top 40 hit on the Billboard charts.
Major honors soon followed, with the Mavericks winning Country Music Awards for Country Vocal Group of the Year in 1995 and 1996 and a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group in 1995. The second single, "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down," from their 1995 album, "Music for All Occasions," peaked at #13 on the Billboard music charts. After releasing several more albums, the group went on a hiatus for several years before reuniting to collaborate on "In Time."
With a blues man’s respect for roots and tradition, coupled with an appreciation for—and successful melding of—contemporary songwriting, Seth Walker is an engaging performer whose tasteful guitar playing and soulful croon have captured fans of great music, blues and otherwise.
