Talk-It Hennepin: Owning Public Space—The Power of Place Identity

share
New Century Theatre
Now playing through June 9, 2012

Talk-It Hennepin is a free, four-part series of public conversations and workshops bringing together today’s foremost thinkers and professionals in city planning and urban design with Hennepin Avenue stakeholders.

Talk-It Hennepin: Owning Public Space—The Power of Place Identity

Thursday, June 7, 7:00 – 9:00pm
New Century Theatre
615 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis
(Street Level, City Center)

The last compelling conversation in the Talk-It Hennepin series will explore creating and managing a shared, multi-ethnic urban space on Hennepin Avenue.

Three fascinating speakers will bring broad experience and ideas to the table. Cultural geographer and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Don Mitchell will apply his thinking about contested urban spaces; Chancee Martorell, founder and director of Thai Community Development Center and East Hollywood's Thai Town, will share her street-wise work within that multi-cultural space; and nationally-recognized, Saint Paul-based artist Seitu Jones will weave together theory and practice from his work in multiple cities.

(Street Level, City Center)

The local artist team of Ta-coumba Aiken, Mankwe Ndosi, Leah Nelson and Harry Waters Jr. will guide participants in building on the values, vision and design ideas for Hennepin Avenue that were generated at the previous three workshops, placing concepts on the 42-foot model of Hennepin Avenue and defining steps for implemention.
