Trey Anastasio with Classic TABState Theatre Saturday, February 20 at 8:00pm $39.50
|
Trey hits the road in February for a month-long tour with Classic TAB, featuring the same lineup from last fall, with the addition of horns back into the mix. Russell Remington (tenor saxophone and flute) and Jen Hartswick (trumpet and vocals) are once again joining Russ Lawton (drums), Tony Markellis (bass) and Ray Paczkowski (keyboards). New to the group is Natalie Cressman on trombone and vocals, who replaces her father, Jeff Cressman. The septet will perform material that spans Anastasio’s solo career, including “Push On ‘Til The Day” (from 2000’s Trey Anastasio), “Sweet Dreams Melinda” and “Sleep Again” (from Shine, 2005), “Goodbye Head” (Bar 17, 2006) and “Olivia” and “Burlap Sack & Pumps” (The Horseshoe Curve, 2007). They’re currently in rehearsals, adapting the arrangements to suit the current configuration and working on several brand new compositions. Classic TAB has always functioned as breeding ground of sorts, with many of its songs eventually crossing over into Phish’s repertoire. Drawing inspiration from experimental jazz, pop, reggae, metal, classical and barbershop music, Anastasio has released eight solo albums. His most recent, Time Turns Elastic, recorded with The Northwest Sinfonia, was released last year. Composed with Don Hart, the piece was given its debut by Orchestra Nashville in 2008 and Anastasio performed it with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic in 2009. Last year also saw the release of Phish’s Joy, hailed as “a genuinely great album” by Rolling Stone, and its 7-DVD archival boxed set, The Clifford Ball, which was nominated for a GRAMMY® award.
