Big Bad Voodoo Daddy's Wild and Swingin' Holiday Party Plays the Pantages, Dec. 5

MINNEAPOLIS—Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s Wild and Swingin’ Holiday Party, showcasing the Southern California retro swing band’s massively successful fusion of music from jazz and swing to Dixieland and big-band, plays Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Pantages Theatre, Saturday Dec. 5, 2009. Since arriving on the scene in 1993, their music been featured in over sixty movies and television shows. This seven-man group’s seasonal concert will feature yuletide classics like “Blue Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” and “We Three Kings” in rollicking Big Band extravaganzas. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s progressive, musically perceptive approach first rocketed the group to stardom in 1996, when their singles “You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three (Tonight)” and “Go Daddy-O” were featured in the indie cult comedy film “Swingers.” These exuberant musicians were a part of the 1999 Super Bowl half-time show, performed to sold out crowds at the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Hall, Lincoln Center, Chastain Park and Constitution Hall and played for three American presidents. They have appeared numerous times on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “Live with Regis and Kelly.” Their eighth studio album, “How Big Can You Get? A Tribute to Cab Calloway” released in April 2009 on Vanguard, kicked off with a performance of “Calloway Boogie” on the ABC reality show “Dancing with the Stars.” Their holiday show in Minneapolis is part of a national tour with stops at more than 40 cities including St. Louis, Orlando, Los Angeles and Houston.
