Al Jarreau, called “one of the world’s greatest natural resources” by the Detroit News, began singing at age four. His breakthrough came in 1977 when Warner Brothers Records released his third album, “Look to the Rainbow,” which earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. The next three years brought the vocalist three more Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Male Pop Vocalist. He continued to top the charts in the 1980s and became a weekly guest in America’s living rooms singing the Grammy-nominated theme song for the ABC TV series “Moonlighting.” In 1996, he accepted a three-month Broadway stint playing the role of Teen Angel in the hit musical “Grease” and also appeared on TV shows including Fox’s “New York Undercover” and NBC’s “Touched by An Angel.” He received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March 2001 and released “The Very Best of Al Jarreau: An Excellent Adventure,” a 16-song collection of his best-known songs, in 2009.
