MINNEAPOLIS—Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time and the inspiration for the Broadway blockbuster Jersey Boys, returns to Minneapolis by popular demand to play Hennepin Theatre Trust’s State Theatre at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Over the past 40 years, led by the distinctive falsetto of Frankie Valli, the group has produced such megahits as “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man” and sold over 100 million records worldwide. Valli performed two enthusiastic shows at the Orpheum in October 2008 and Jersey Boys enjoyed successful runs at the Orpheum in March 2008 and April 2011. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4. To purchase tickets or for more information, please visit www.HennepinTheatreTrust.org or call 1.800.982.2787.
One of the most enduring and successful vocal groups of the 1960s, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons skyrocketed to fame in 1962 with their chart-topping single, “Sherry,” by principal Four Seasons’ songwriter Bob Gaudio. With that smash hit, the group cemented their unique musical style – mixing the popular doo-wop music of the ‘50s with the R&B influences of the ‘60s and Valli’s three octave range. In 1964, when other U.S. groups were overshadowed by the arrival of the Beatles, the Four Seasons continued to thrive with three top five hits.
In 1994, their single “December ’63 (Oh, What a Night)” appeared on the “Forrest Gump” soundtrack and, owing to its second lease on life, became the longest-charting single in history with 50 total weeks. Over his incredible career as a solo artist and with the Four Seasons, Frankie Valli has produced 19 top ten hits and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with original Four Seasons members Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito in 1990. Valli continues to thrill audiences worldwide with his frequent live performances and recordings.
