Release date:
Tuesday, August 14, 2012

MINNEAPOLIS—Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that flexible ticket packages including productions from the 2012/13 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season will go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, August 15 at 10 a.m. Shear Madness and Monty Python’s Spamalot have been added as season specials as well as Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, a co-production in partnership with Theater Latté Da. Aida, directed by the acclaimed Peter Rothstein, which runs January 3-27, 2013 at the Pantages Theatre. Shear Madness will be at the Pantages, February 27-March 17, 2013 and Spamalot at the Orpheum Theatre, March 15-16, 2013.

The flexible ticket packages are a popular option which allows ticket buyers to secure their seats from among ten shows on the upcoming season before single tickets go on sale to the general public. Audience members can customize their season by choosing three or more shows from ten 2012/13 productions. Individual tickets will be made available later. Due to extremely high demand, tickets for The Book of Mormon will not be offered through the flexible ticket package, but are still available with the purchase of a full season package. Visit HennepinTheatreTrust.org for more information.

Audience members can choose from the following shows running from October 2012 to June 2013 at the Trust’s Orpheum and Pantages Theatres in downtown Minneapolis: War Horse, Catch Me If You Can, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Flashdance, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, Rock of Ages, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Shear Madness and Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida.

• First up this fall is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast presented by NETworks, running for one week only, October 16-21, 2012. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this musical love story features beloved songs including “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

• Catch Me If You Can begins a string of Minnesota Broadway debuts and runs December 11-16, 2012. Based on the hit DreamWorks film and the incredible true story that inspired it, Catch Me If You Can captures the astonishing journey of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a world-class con artist who passed himself off as a doctor, a lawyer and a jet pilot—all before the age of 21.

• Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, a co-production presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust and Theater Latté Da and directed by the acclaimed Peter Rothstein, kicks off the new year January 3-27, 2013 at the Pantages. Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards including Best Musical Score with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, the musical is based on the Giuseppi Verdi opera and tells the dramatic love story between Radames, the captain of the Egyptian army, and Aida, the captured Nubian princess.

• Priscilla Queen of the Desert will make its national tour debut in Minneapolis January 8-13, 2013. This uplifting story about a trio of friends on the road trip of a lifetime includes dance floor favorites such as “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally” and “I Will Survive.”

• Shear Madness, the longest running play in American theatre history, is set for February 27-March 17, 2013. Filled with comedy and improvisation, this uproarious mystery takes place in a hair salon and invites audiences to spot the clues, question the suspects and solve the crime. It was voted “Best Comedy of the Year” seven times by the Boston Globe.

• King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table return to taunt Minneapolis in Monty Python’s Spamalot, March 15-16, 2013. Winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical, this comedy sensation, lovingly ripped off from the film classic “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” will spread laughter and cheer throughout the kingdom.

• Flashdance, the journey of Alex, a woman who is a welder, but dreams of being a dancer, will debut in Minnesota April 2-7, 2013. This new musical features the Academy Award-winning title track “Flashdance – What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “Gloria” and “I Love Rock & Roll,” along with 16 original songs by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary.

• The magical Mary Poppins returns to Minneapolis as a special addition to the season running April 23-28, 2013. Produced by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, this musical combines the original stories by P.L. Travers with songs from the Walt Disney film.

• Back by popular demand, Rock of Ages will play a limited engagement May 17-19, 2013. This five-time Tony nominated musical is told through the hit ‘80s songs of Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and more.

• War Horse makes its Minnesota debut June 12-23, 2013. With astonishing life-sized puppets bringing horses to life on stage, this imaginative World War I drama was called “a landmark theatre event” by Time Magazine.
